“Coogie” (a poem about a beloved pitbull)
Coogie
We were ready to adopt. The empty nest was yearning for a resident, so off we went to the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, Long Island, to find a soulmate.
At Thirty-Six-North, we exited the Long Island Expressway and drove to Port Washington where destiny awaited us. Between howls, growls, barks and meows it was difficult to concentrate. There was a shorthaired golden mix-breed that was a charmer, a cuddly Shar-pei, a sweet calico cat, a regal Beagle, and poor Rudy, blind and left behind. How were we to decide? We liked that fawn and white one. The cinnamon beauty also looked good. All the animals were begging for our attention. We finally reached the last cage and there he was–we knew fate had meant him for us. He peered at us with his golden soulful eyes that immediately connected with our hearts. There were so many to choose from that memorable day, but none compared to him. He looked so forlorn, and did not make a sound, except for an unspoken plea that said, “Please pick me.” So we did.
Coogie, makes every day a joy. A loving friend that asks for little: a hug, a good meal, a brisk walk, and a cozy spot between us at night.
Never let anyone tell you that pit bulls do not make great pets. They do!
Lexy
Hi, my name is Lexy. I think I am a Labrador, bully mix. I am about 4 years old. I have a heart of gold, and love anything and anyone that comes my way. I am spayed, and UTD on my heartworm. I love children and other dogs, but I don’t know what a cat is so I don’t know if I like them or not- based on my love for everything else in life I would think so! I love to run, and play in the yard, as well as lay low and watch tv inside. I am fully housetrained, and ask to go out when I need to potty The only thing I dislike is getting my nails done- I know, what kind of a girl am I? My owners are working on that with me, but I still don’t like it much. Other than that, I am not a picky dog. I roll with the punches, and love life. I am a happy girl, who is looking for a family that has the time and space because my family’s situation has changed and they just don’t have the time for me anymore and that makes me very sad.
If you think you can love me FOREVER (cuz I don’t ever want to have to go thru this again), Please call 315-427-2266. I will only go with someone who is willing to be asked alot of questions to make sure that they will love and care for me for the rest of my doggy days.
Ted
Ted is a male Staffordshire Terrier mix. He was brought into a local vet as a stray and he has been living there for months awaiting a new home. He appears to be 2-3 years old. He has been neutered and it UTD on all of his shots. He is extremely friendly and has alot of energy. He is lacking a bit in the manners department but it is clearly not his fault. He spends most of his time in a cage and just needs someone to show him the ropes.
